Storytelling and Advocacy is a collaborative project with Filippo Trevisan and Michael Vaughan on datafication and changes in the use of storytelling for political and social change. Our co-authored book, Story Tech: Power, Storytelling, and Social Change Advocacy will be published by University of Michigan Press, in 2024. We are currently developing new projects on storytelling and storylistening for policymakers.
Crowdsourced Political Engagement I led an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project, with Darren Halpin and Michael Vaughan. It focused on the emergence and impact of citizen-led online petitioning and crowdfunding campaigns. We published a book in late 2022 Crowdsourced politics: the rise of online petitions and micro-donations for Palgrave-Springer, and two comparative articles via a collaboration with German scholars at the Weizenbaum Institute. Serrin Rutledge-Prior and I also published a report on the future of government petition platforms in 2023.

The Civic Network, I led a project on young people, civic engagement and social media use in Australia, UK and USA, with Michael Xenos and Brian Loader. It was funded by the Spencer Foundation (USA) through their New Civics Initiative. We published 8 highly-cited articles, and an edited book from this project. The survey data from this project is freely available
Digital Citizenship and Political Engagement my sole-authored monograph on the strategies of online campaigning organisations, and the influence of GetUp in Australia, was published in the Palgrave Macmillan Interest Groups and Advocacy series, in 2017.

Digital Rights and Governance was a collaborative, multi-disciplinary project funded by the University of Sydney. A report on a national survey of citizens’ attitudes to issues of data use and privacy, surveillance, and online speech was published in 2017 and is publicly available.
